ガーナの祭りは旅と苦難の記憶をとどめます。ウィネバでは、棒と棍棒だけを手にした戦士組が競い合い、神オトゥのために生きたブッシュバックを捕らえます。アクラではガの人びとが数週間の沈黙を守り、そののち太鼓と踊りとクポクポイで「飢えをやじる」のです。

この地図に載るガーナの二つの祭りは、いずれも南の海岸のもので、どちらもその民をこの地へ運んだ移動をふり返ります。アボアキェルはウィネバのエフツの人びとが5月の第一土曜に行い、西スーダンの古い王国から無事にたどり着いたことを記念します。ホモウォは大アクラのガの人びとの収穫祭で、道中に耐えた飢えを思い起こし、8月から9月にかけて町ごとに祝われます。
The Ga people of Accra remember a famine by laughing at it: after weeks in which drumming and noise are banned, chiefs sprinkle kpokpoi — steamed maize with palm oil — through the streets, and the drums return for “hooting at hunger”.
