تتبع معظم أعياد اليونان الكبرى عيد الفصح الأرثوذكسي، الذي يُحسب بالتقويم اليولياني ويقع عادةً بعد الفصح الغربي؛ وهما يتوافقان في بعض السنين، كعام 2025 وعام 2028. يتصاعد الكرنفال أسابيع قبل الصوم الكبير، ويفتح الاثنين النظيف الصوم قبل الفصح بسبعة أسابيع، وينتهي أسبوع الآلام بخدمة القيامة في منتصف الليل، تستقبلها الأجراس والألعاب النارية.
