ギリシャの祭りの一年は正教の復活祭を軸に回ります。パトラの謝肉祭は数週間続き、清めの月曜には凧が上がり、ケルキラ（コルフ）では聖骸布の行列と窓から投げ落とされる素焼きの壺、キオス島では二つの教会のあいだでロケット合戦が繰り広げられます。

ギリシャの大きな祭りのほとんどは正教の復活祭にしたがいます。復活祭はユリウス暦で計算されるため、西方の復活祭より遅いのが通例ですが、2025年や2028年のように重なる年もあります。謝肉祭は四旬節の前の数週間をかけて盛り上がり、清めの月曜は復活祭の七週前に四旬節を開きます。聖週間は真夜中の復活の祈りで終わり、鐘と花火がそれを迎えます。
