تحفظ تايلاند الأول من كانون الثاني رأسًا رسميًّا للسنة منذ عام 1940، لكن أعيادها المتوارثة ما زالت تتبع حسابات أقدم: فسونغكران يوافق دخول الشمس برج الحمل في نيسان، ولوي كراثونغ يوافق بدر الشهر الثاني عشر من التقويم القمري التايلاندي.
