Aomori Nebuta Matsuri
青森ねぶた祭
Aomori Nebuta Matsuri runs every year from 2 to 7 August: large illuminated floats through the city at night, and a sea procession with fireworks on the 7th. Anyone may join the dancers.

چه روی میدهد
Aomori Nebuta Matsuri (青森ねぶた祭) is held every year from 2 to 7 August. The evening runs are on 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 August, with large nebuta and, on 2 and 3 August, children’s nebuta. On 7 August there is a daytime run of large nebuta, followed in the evening by the Aomori fireworks festival and the nebuta sea procession at Aomori Port, which closes the festival.
Its origin is not certain. It is said to be probably a variant of the lantern-floating of the Tanabata festival, and it is thought that the Tanabata festival, which came from China in the Nara period, merged with customs long present in Tsugaru and with observances such as shoryo-okuri, ningyo and mushi-okuri. On this account, as paper, bamboo and candles became widespread these became lanterns, and the lanterns changed into the figure nebuta and fan nebuta. The present-day sea procession is linked to that older lantern-floating practice.
Anyone may take part as a haneto without belonging to a group. Participation is open, with no advance registration and no sign-in on the day. The condition is to wear the haneto costume and join a nebuta group that is waiting.
The accompaniment for the floats is nebuta-bayashi (ねぶた囃子), played on flute, drum and hand gong.

پیش از رفتن
Aomori Nebuta — joining as a haneto. The organiser’s own rules.
هرگز
- Join the dancing without the full haneto costume and the hanagasa. The costume is the condition of entry, in place of any registration.
- Join partway along the route. The committee asks you to be at the assembly point before your group sets off, and says joining mid-route may be refused when the dancers are already crowded.
- Ignore the marshals’ instructions.
- Turn back against the direction of the procession while it is moving.
- Bring a whistle or anything else that does not belong to the nebuta hayashi.
- Set off fireworks or firecrackers in the procession, bring in a one-shō bottle, or throw away empty cans. The committee gives danger as the reason.
- Block a fire engine or ambulance. Clear the road at once if one is called out.
- Linger after your group has completed the circuit — disperse promptly.
عکاسی
The festival’s own published rules say nothing about photography. This is not a statement that photography is restricted at Nebuta, and it is not permission either.
پوشش
To dance as a haneto you must wear the full costume: a hanagasa on the head, a bright red or pink tasuki across the shoulder, a shigoki at the waist with a tin gagashiko for water or sake, a white-ground yukata with the hem hitched to the knee over a pink or blue okoshi, and white tabi with zōri tied on using a mameshibori cloth. The committee is explicit that the costume, not registration, is what admits you: it says there is no advance registration and no sign-in on the day. A costume costs around ¥10,000 to buy and about ¥4,000 to rent in Aomori.
