エチオピアは独自の暦で時を数え、大きな祝いはエチオピア正教テワヘド教会のものです。ティムカットでは聖櫃の写しが水辺へ運ばれ、メスケルではデメラのかがり火が燃え、九月の新年は黄色い花で迎えられます。

エチオピアの公式な暦は三十日の月が十二か月あり、さらに五日か六日の十三番目の月がつきます。年は九月に始まり、この地図の日付もそこから計算しています。よく知られた祭りはエチオピア正教テワヘド教会の祝日で、行列、聖歌をとなえる司祭たち、そして非常に大きな人の集まりとともに祝われます。
そのうち二つはユネスコの無形文化遺産の代表一覧表に記載されています。聖十字架の発見を記念するメスケルが2013年、エチオピアの主の洗礼祭であるティムカットが2019年です。
