De los ritos de primavera del Hıdrellez al giro de los derviches mevleví en diciembre, las fiestas de Turquía mezclan el ritmo de las estaciones, la tradición islámica y certámenes centenarios como la lucha con aceite de Kırkpınar.

Turquía mantiene el calendario gregoriano para la vida civil, pero sus fiestas religiosas siguen el calendario lunar islámico y se adelantan unos once días cada año, y varias de sus costumbres de primavera se reúnen en torno al 21 de marzo y al 6 de mayo, los antiguos puntos de giro de la estación.
Muchas de sus fiestas están en las listas de patrimonio inmaterial de la Unesco —la lucha con aceite de Kırkpınar, la fiesta del Mesir Macunu, el Hıdrellez y la ceremonia del sema mevleví entre ellas— y varias se celebran en el mismo lugar desde hace siglos.
