クラクフはポーランドでもとりわけ独特な二つの伝えを守っています。街の教会や塔を小さく写しとった、きらめく降誕の飾りは毎年十二月に中央広場で審査され、六月にはひげをたたえた「タタール人」ラユコニクが張り子の馬にまたがって町を踊りめぐります。

この地図に載るポーランドの二つの祭りは、どちらもクラクフのものです。クラクフの降誕飾りショプカの伝えは、2018年にポーランドから初めてユネスコの無形文化遺産の代表一覧表に記載されました。ラユコニクの行進は、2014年にポーランドの国の無形文化遺産一覧へ最初に載せられた五つの伝えのひとつです。

On the first Thursday of December, hundreds of makers carry their szopki — nativity scenes shaped like Kraków’s churches, towers and cloth hall, glittering with foil and coloured paper — to the steps of the Mickiewicz monument on the Main Market Square to be judged.

On the first Thursday after Corpus Christi, a bearded rider in a red Tatar costume, with a wooden horse around his waist, dances through Kraków with a band and an escort of “Tatars”, tapping passers-by with his mace for luck before toasting the city with the mayor.
