Les Philippines font la fête dans la rue avec exubérance — danses pour le Santo Niño à Cebu et à Kalibo, maisons habillées de galettes de riz à Lucban, et masques souriants de Bacolod.

Beaucoup des plus grandes fêtes du pays honorent le Santo Niño, l’image de l’Enfant Jésus apportée à Cebu en 1521, et mêlent la dévotion catholique aux danses de rue, aux tambours et aux costumes travaillés. Le Sinulog de Cebu et l’Ati-Atihan de Kalibo tombent tous deux le troisième dimanche de janvier.
D’autres fêtent la récolte ou l’esprit d’une ville : le Pahiyas de Lucban habille les maisons de produits de la terre pour la fête de saint Isidore le Laboureur, patron des agriculteurs, et le MassKara de Bacolod a été créé en 1980 pour relever une ville dans des temps difficiles.

Every 15 May the farming town of Lucban honours St Isidore the Labourer by dressing its houses in the harvest — fruit, vegetables, handicrafts and kiping, leaf-shaped rice wafers in every colour that can later be grilled or fried and eaten.
