Na noite da Festa das Lanternas, Taiwan celebra nos dois extremos da ilha — lanternas de papel que sobem com desejos escritos sobre os montes de Pingxi, no norte, enquanto em Yanshui, no sul, milhares de rojões são disparados contra a multidão, protegida por capacetes.

A Festa das Lanternas, no 15º dia do primeiro mês lunar, também é conhecida como o “pequeno Ano Novo”. A Administração de Turismo de Taiwan descreve os seus costumes assim: honrar os deuses, adivinhar enigmas escritos nas lanternas, comer bolinhas de farinha de arroz e soltar lanternas no céu. Um dito popular resume as suas duas celebrações mais famosas: “lanternas do céu no norte, rojões de colmeia no sul”.
As duas festas deste atlas seguem o calendário lunar, de modo que caem entre o início de fevereiro e o início de março.
